Lost

“Don’t say it.”

“Say what?”

“What you’re thinking.”

“Man, my feet hurt, it is cold and dark out here and I got to take a shit and you want to play guessing games?”

(c) 2012 Michael Yost 3/16

This weekend’s www.trifecta.com challenge is to write a story entitled ‘Lost’ in exactly 33 words. The word ‘lost’ can only appear in the title, not your 33 words. Any reference to the TV show could result in another visit to see the editors in the Trifecta offices.

  5. Spot on. I have the privilege of living with 3 men, all of whom hate guessing games and love informing me of when they need to take a shit. Stories abound!

  6. Best use of crude language (didn’t feel like forced shock value) that I’ve read recently. Felt genuine, with that necessary touch of mystery. Well done.

  7. Hilarious. Awesome. I love this one. I thought about how funny it would be to write from the perspective of being lost. I’m glad I didn’t because you rocked it.

  9. Thanks for linking up to Trifextra this weekend. I think you nailed it here. The dialogue is definitely authentic, without seeming gratuitous, and the whole thing is both funny and relatable. Really nice stuff, booguloo. Hope to see you back on Monday.

  10. Great! And how come we all know what being talked about? Makes it a good story, that’s for sure! I can see it all now. 😆

  13. Oh, Michael, too funny. I can see them now… at least it’s dark. Hope the one who needs to go has a few tissues on hand! Like the bears…

  15. That’s funny! I especially liked what the second person was really thinking instead of “We’re lost”

    • Thanks. I just imagined what I would have said; didn’t have enough words left to express what I wanted to do though. Not knowing if you need to pass gas or not is definitely not comfortable.

  16. Brilliant. I loved the first character’s demand, and the failure of the respondent to heed.

  20. Been lost for hours before on a hike around Lake Tahoe. Sounds kinda like the conversation that took place between us hikers. Funny take!

    • I think we’ve all experienced a cheek squeezing event at one time or another. At least in the woods you can have some privacy and if worse comes to worse you always have underwear (thong wearers should take this into consideration when hiking) that can be used for toilet paper (not that I’d know anything about such problems….ha ha). I care about what you think; I think the question now should be whether or not you care what I think. smiles…
