Why are you making it so hard
Keeping your lonely heart on guard
You want to get me down on my knees
To help you decide to become free
I’m too tired to try and play the game
Tit for tat is never quite the same
It’s time to come down on your own
Off your towering self-absorbed throne
This is our last chance before I leave
Let me turn back for you to see
Here I am giving my hand and heart
Your desires deserve a new start

Hi Michael, lovely, heartbreaking words, and I think the title is great!
Almost went with deserve being plural instead. smiles…
Whoa. Love is not one constantly contriving ways for the other to prove how much they love. No matter how much you give, if the other heart is not truly open they won’t receive. Nicely penned Michael.
Thanks for your kind comments.
YIKES!!!
Very nicely done, and the words with their message hits so close to home with memories and reminders!!
Definitely universal in my opinion. Glad you liked it.
Like the tug of war feeling. Great little story of struggle!
Thank you.
Thanks.
As usual, your words hit very close to home. You have a way of describing situations which we can all relate to, even if the situation isn’t quite the same.
Thanks for your kind words.
Very close to home – I was intrigued by what seemed to be a shift in perspective in the middle of the poem. Thanks for sharing!
You’re very welcome.
Touching and wise words… I like it!
Thanks and thanks for the visit.
I am so impressed with this piece! Great writing.
Thank you Kay.
Loved the last line. Almost felt like a message for me. Nicely done.
Someday Somewhere – Hope
I’m glad it meant something to you. Thanks.
Touching! Everyone deserves a second chance. In a relationship, if both parties are thinking about giving, then both will be busy receiving the goodness as well!
I like the way you think.
